Bring Your Vinyl Banner, Hear Your Favorite Song
Summer is here, which means it's time to see some live music. Seeing a concert in the summer is great because outdoor venues allow people the opportunity to dance around like fools. Hearing my favorite songs and hanging out with a big group of friends are the two best aspects of summer concerts. I can control whether or not I go to a show with friends; I cannot, however, control which songs the band chooses to play. Through many years of going to concerts and testing out ways to influence the bands to play my favorite songs, I now know for certain that there is no guaranteed method for enticing the ensemble to perform a particular tune. It comes down to having a positive, optimistic attitude and a little bit of luck. Keep reading to learn about three ways of increasing your chances of hearing your favorite tune at a show. While these methods will increase the likelihood of hearing that special song, keep in mind there are no guarantees.
CARRY ALONG A VINYL BANNER
It kills me when I go to a show and I see a young kid or a teenager holding up a piece of poster board with the name of their favorite song written on it. While I agree that using props is the best way to get the band's attention, I object to the use of poster board because I don't think the glorified paper is large enough to capture the attention of the folks on the stage. Nowadays I bring with me a bright, shiny custom banner as a prop to get the band's attention. A custom banner is a great concert prop because it rolls up and travels easily into the venue; and, custom banners are made of vinyl, which is waterproof. This means that even during those nasty summer rainstorms, when poster-boards disintegrate at the hands of the falling water, a custom vinyl banner is still able to notify the band of your song request.
ATTACH YOUR CUSTOM BANNER TO LONG POLES ON EACH END
Vinyl banners are worthless if they can't be seen. Thus, you need to get creative if you want the band to see your vinyl banner. Lucky for you, I have a solution. Just include sleeve pockets on either end of the vinyl banner. These pockets allow you to affix metal or plastic poles to the vinyl banner so that you can then hold the banner up in the sky. This eliminates your height (or lack thereof) from playing a factor in whether or not you get to hear your favorite song.
MAKE YOUR BANNER BRIGHT AND FLASHY
I have had the most luck with hearing my favorite song when the colors on my custom banner are bright and flashy. Similar to the male peacock, who raises his beautiful tail feathers as a way of attracting a mate, you want to get a band's attention with bright colors and fancy lettering. I once did such a good job with my that the lead singer called me out and congratulated me on my vinyl banner design. The band then played my favorite song, which I will remember for the rest of my life!
THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU
So there are my three recommendations. These suggestions may not work, but they will definitely improve your odds. Now get out there and go to as many concerts as you can, and don't forget your !
