Alumalite is a strong, aluminum composite metal sign panel with a high density, copolymer corrugated plastic core. Alumalite has two factory-painted sheets of aluminum permanently bonded to both sides of a corrugated plastic core, sandwiching the plastic panel in between.
The Alumalite material itself will usually outlast the artwork on your sign. Our uncoated Economy Grade Signs are rated for at least 3 years outdoors while our Premium Grade Signs coated with an optically clear, UV Protective Lamination are rated for a minimum of 5-8 Years outdoors. Alumalite signs can last for decades indoors.
ARMOUR-Wood and wood are the only materials that are considered to be stronger than Alumalite.
Dibond and Aluminum both have lower relative strength than Alumalite.
Alumalite metal signs are the perfect solution when the panel weight must remain low while retaining excellent rigidity. Some of the applications that it works well for are:
- permanent outdoor business signage
- construction site signs
- real estate signs
- wall mounted signs
- post and panel
- hanging
- fence mount
- multiple panel signs
- point of purchase displays
- score boards and more
This depends on the thickness you choose as well as the overall size of the sign. However, Alumalite is a lightweight material in general.
The 1/4" thick Alumalite will easily withstand moderate winds - approximately 40 mph. If you occasionally have stronger winds in your area we recommend the 1/2" material
Alumalite is designed to hold up for extended periods to both sun and heat extremes.
When mounting Alumalite signs with screws or bolts, the corrugated plastic core can compress because it's hollow. When you attach the sign, TIGHTEN THE SCREW BY HAND. When the screw head is flush with the sign panel, STOP! Continuing to tighten the screw will permanently damage the panel by compressing or squeezing the material together.
If you screw the Alumalite metal sign too tightly, this will create a circular shaped "ding" around the screw head and it will never come out.
We can cut standard 4'x8' sheet sizes to any size you need. The next larger standard size up is a 4' x 10'.
Alumalite is available in a jumbo sheet of 5' x 10'. This is the largest size available without seams.

While we routinely cut Alumalite into custom sizes, we usually only cut it into rectangular or square shapes. We do not cut Alumalite into very customized shapes. The material does not lend itself to intricate cuts or shaping. Any custom shaping must be kept to a minimum. For intricate shapes we recommend other materials, such as Dibond or wood.
There are other products that are comparable to Alumalite. If you need more information about them you can read about Aluminum signs, Dibond signs, and ARMOUR-Wood signs at their individual product pages.
